a Morkie, a Chiweenie, a Poodle and a Pug

were among the contenders.

We figured that the Pug

During a book signing of my book, Angel in a Fur Coat, at the city shelter event today,I noticed a sweet little pup sitting so quietly and sadly in a kennel cage.

Her information page on the kennel door stated her name was

Hope and she was 4 months old.

I asked if I could take her out of her cage and keep her at my table

with me and help her find her new home.

Hope put on her little Please Adopt Me vest

and hung out with me until her new family

walked through the door, saw her,

and adopted her.

Congratulations Hope!!!

Now you can have the fun loving life you deserve.

Today at the Jacksonville Shelter adoption event,

Hope was 1 out of 53 total adoptions that took place!

53 dogs and cats are now resting in peace

in their new homes tonight.

How awesome is that!!!

A Doggie Fashion Show: Heels and Hounds

Ticket Pricing: Adults $2 at door. Children 0-6 Free. $25 Donation to enter your dog in the dog show.

It is unlike any other charity event. It is called "Heels and Hounds" and is a pet friendly charity event. There will be a sort of "doggy pageant/show" with prizes and awards for every participating dog. There will also be many vendors there including food (ex.pizza, funnel cakes) and drinks, dog grooming, dog photo booth, dog clothing, and even a dog kissing booth. It is sort of a carnival focused around dogs and dog lovers! All proceeds will go to the Quigley House and Guardian Ad Litem.

It's feeling like winter in Florida...

...under the bridge at RAM

but the hot chocolate is delicious!

And the artists were out and playing

with sidewalk chalk

And we met a very important dog...

He is in his final stages of training before he goes to college

and once he graduates he will go to live with a little girl

who has Cerebral Palsy

There is a wonderful program in Florida where volenteers train dogs to be people companions. The program is free with no cost to the family.

The families are able to meet the dog and be matched with a best friend for life. A little girl is about to meet her best buddy in the whole world.

How cool is that!

Lots of people were dressed up but my

favorite was the wolf man

boy was he scary!

I met lots of cool dogs...

But the coolest dog of all was Tess.

Tess had served in Iraqi...a real hero dog!

I had tons of fun...

lots of people took pictures of me in my angel wings.

I made lots of milk bone money.

It was a great day and now for my nap

Halloween has gone to the dogs and we're loving it!

We had 2 back-to-back doggy Halloween parties.

1st was the Hallow-WOOF bash

hosted by the Jacksonville Dog Fanciers Club

we had the Gooberella booth set up highlighting our book

Angel in a Fur Coat

Augie tested his skills on the agility course

And we met some cool dogs in some cool and scary costumes

Next was the Paws Park Dog Park Halloween party

The 3 Goobers made attendence

The Pet Supermarket had a booth there and they filled our

treat bags with all kinds of stuff until it overflowed!

The Pet Supermarket rocks!

And there was a big doggy costume contest.

There were like 70 some contestants,

and some of the people even dressed up!

There were chickens...

Hula dancing dogs

cute little indians

Ballerinas

Kings with a cute butt!

Costumes wih deep meanings...

and even the scary movie monsters brought their dogs out to the party

And then we carved our dog pumpkin!

So far it's been a pretty cool Halloween

We've got one more event and then the fun

at barking at the door at all the trick-or-treaters!

Free carriage rides will be provided by St. Augustine Transfer / Avalon Carriages for those who make a donation to St. Augustine Humane Society and Diamonds in the Rough Farm.

All pets must be on a leash and be current on vaccinations, please! Animals should be well mannered and be comfortable around other pets, people and unfamiliar surroundings. Please bring water for your pet and pick-up baggies for your animal's waste.

Word is, 46 cats and dogs were adopted at the Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services One Year Anniversary celebration yesterday. How great is that!!!

The sweet face dog above is, Sandy, the new member of my family...adopted yesterday from the shelter.
She's still getting used to her new home, she even wagged her tail for a few minutes last night and this morning she woke up wagging...progress!

She is so sweet and so small, I hope she likes it here :)

I hope all the dogs that were adopted yesterday wake up this morning wagging!

Hope everyone had a fun and safe July 4th. It was a challenging one for us...We went to the Green Cove Springs celebration where it rained, poured and then the sun came out full force for a few hours before it poured the rain again but it ended in a nice breezy night. It was a beautiful hot day at Ram this past saturday, but with 4 electric fans under a 10x10 tent next to the St. John's River under the humongous Fuller Warren bridge for shade makes it at least 15 degree cooler!

It was great meeting so many wonderful people who love their dogs cats and even goats! And it always makes me so happy to hear how many people have already read my book, Angel in a Fur Coat, and loved it...awaiting for the sequel.

Now, onto a few pictures of some doggy customers and a goat!

Local author imagines dogs as angels

Imagine your pet was once an angel, sent down to earth specifically for you.
That's the idea that became the inspiration for a local woman, Cynthia L. Enuton, to write a book and a spinoff creative enterprise.

Enuton's book, Angel in a Fur Coat, which she wrote and illustrated, is a fantasy fiction story, geared toward children ages 7 to 11 — and, of course, dog lovers. She maintains a website dedicated to the story at gooberella.com.

Enuton is a former mental health counselor who worked with emotionally challenged children and teens, and found that simple interactions with her pet dog helped many of them heal. Today, she and her Pekingese, Xia, are often seen at pet events around town.

You can find her singing books on May 20 from 2-4 p.m. at the Borders Southside Boulevard; May 22 at the Riverside Arts Market; May 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the Books-a-Million on Marsh Landing Parkway; and May 31 at the Memorial Day River Fest in Green Cove Springs.

Enuton also makes customized "Fur Angel" magnets and necklaces from photos that customers send her.

She donates $2 of each Fur Angel purchase (and $3 of each package) to the St. Augustine Humane Society, which is getting back on its feet after having to close in 2008.
